HANDPAN TECHNIQUES:
- Place the handpan on your legs and use your hands and fingers to play the notes. Handpans produce a warm and softer sound compared to tongue drums. You can get a variety of tones out of the handpan depending on how you play the notes. Each sound field has several overtone resonance zones around the basic tone.
- The most basic way to play a handpan is to alternate playing with your fingers and hands. Depending on how hard you strike the notes, you will change the timbre of the sound. Experiment with different styles to find a sound you love.
- The centre sound “DING” of the handpan can be played with different techniques. In addition to tapping with your fingertips you can also play with the palm or the bottom of your palm for different sound effects. The sound “DING” tapping with the palm of the hand will be thicker than the sound of fingertip tapping and the sound of fingertip tapping will be more clear.
