Founded in 1947, Tokai produces a wide range of musical instruments for both the international and Japanese domestic market; including acoustic guitars, electric guitars, electric basses, autoharps and melodicas. Through innovative design and legendary craftsmanship, Tokai has become a name coveted by musicians around the globe.
First introduced to the international market through their partnership with C.F. Martin in the early 1970’s producing Sigma branded guitars, it wasn’t until the late 70’s that the name Tokai burst onto the international music scene. Tokai quickly gained an impressive reputation for their homages to classic 1950’s American guitar designs. Models such as the “Love Rock” and “Les Paul Reborn”, as well as the “Springy Sound” and “BreezySound”, were instant hits in the market place thanks to their incredible quality and vintage specifications. With the introduction of the Talbo in 1983 and the groundbreaking SEB construction method for increasing resonance and sustain, Tokai have cemented their place in modern guitar making history as an innovator and builder of world class instruments.
